Meeting Minutes
September 11, 2008


Opening:


The regular meeting of the Latin American Student Association was called to
order at 5:36pm on 9/11/08 in West Hall rm. 138.

Present: 

Amanda Stone, Christina Huntley, Allison Hatchell, Anita Rojas, Rachel Ocho,
Slaton Whatley, Melissa Pendrey, Sydney Earley, Beka Nation, Ashley Hartt,
Beatriz Potter, Bridgett Sandlin, Christopher Roquemore, Maggie Viverette,
Patricia Stone, Amber Lovelace, Jasmine McClellan


A.        Approval of Agenda


The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.


B.        Approval of Minutes


The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as
distributed.

Business

*	Collection of dues


D.                New Business


*	Changing the meeting date to every Thursday instead of every other
Thursday

*	Talked about Hispanic Heritage month, specifically the dance events
that will be held in Cypress Rm in UC on Oct 15, 22, 29.  

-Food to be provided by LASA as well as Music

*	Start up of a Toy Drive during the month of October until December
*	Teacher Raffle to propose fundraiser where half donations to any
charity of choice and the other half to LASA funds
*	Starting a blog to inform others about LASA and creating a
Suggestion Box
*	Topic Table "integrate other languages into club"
*	Changing the name of the Organization.  Some people believe that the
name is misleading and ostracized other students.  

-              Students Embracing All Languages (SEAL)

-              Modern Classical Language (MCL)

-              Students Interested in Latin America (SILA)


E.        Agenda for Next Meeting


*	Continue discussion of changing name
*	Plan an upcoming event


Adjournment:


Meeting was adjourned at 6:20 by Amanda Stone. The next general meeting will
be at 5:30pm on 9/18/08 in West Hall rm. 138.
