Meeting Minutes
August 28, 2008


Opening:


The regular meeting of the Latin American Student Association was called to
order at 5:00pm on 8/28/08 in West Hall rm 138.


Present:


Amanda Stone, Christina Huntley, Allison Hatchell, Anita Rojas, Rachel Ocho,
Slaton Whatley, Melissa Pendrey, Sydney Earley


A.        New Business


*	Pick meeting time, location, and dates.  

-              Every other Thursday at 530 in rm 138 in West Hall

*	Pick officers

-              El Presidente: Amanda Stone

El Vicepresidente: Christina Huntley

El Secretario: Allison Hatchell

El Tesorero: TBA

*	Dues need to be paid in the amount of ten dollars

 

*	Brainstorm ideas for activities

                - Hispanic Heritage month at VSU October 2008

-Each month we want to honor a different holiday or celebration within the
Latin American culture, as well as others.

-Movie Nights once a month

-Volunteer Work: Community Aid/ Drives, Migrancy Program Car Wash, Literacy
Program

-Reading short stories to children once a month in the Library

-Participate in the VSU Homecoming Parade

-Represent a different region each month

-Cultural Fashion Show/ Lowndes High International Fair

-Bake Sale starting September 12, 2008 (TBA)

-Collaborating with other student organizations on First Fridays downtown
Valdosta

-Azalea Festival: set up booths and informing community about LASA

-Heart Walk Nov. 16, 2008 (TBA)


B.        Agenda for Next Meeting


*	Discuss topics and events mentioned at the Campus wide Organization
meeting that will be held in the UC cypress rm at 7pm.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:57pm by Amanda Stone. The next general meeting
will be at 5pm on 9/11/08 in West Hall rm 138.
