DESCRIPTION
This professional position conducts and assists with
environmental/geological research as it relates to products
contributing to responsible use and understanding of Florida's
natural resources. Specific responsibilities include planning,
designing, directing, producing, and editing GIS projects for
geological mapping analysis and interpretation. A working knowledge
of geological mapping for environmental and geological applications
using GIS analysis and associated programs is required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Develop, implement and direct the FGS Geologic Mapping/GIS Program.
Use ArcMap, ArcView, and other GIS software for entry, analysis, and
presentation of geologic data and mapping.
Create scripts to facilitate FGS geologic research programs.
Assisting staff with mapping of database records, image analysis,
geologic surface modeling, geochemical mapping and 3D visualization.
Collect, maintain, and analyze geological spatial and attribute
information using appropriate database and GIS-related tools and
software.
Hire OPS and coordinate their work assignments and schedules to
support these FGS GIS functions.
Prepare protocols and data and media standards for digital
GIS-related files as agreed upon.
Work with staff in defining system hardware and software requirements
and specifications necessary to carry out GIS implementation and data
conversion.
Research and recommend GIS software improvements, upgrades, add-ins
and new programs as appropriate.
Train and assist other staff in GIS programs and DEP digital map
library use.
