Good Afternoon:

Attached are the minutes from the Asia Council meeting on January 28th. A quick summary is below.

1. Erick Kendrick presented the proposal we discussed at the last few meetings updating the Asian Studies Certificate to allow options for students at schools that don't offer Asian languages. It was approved. You will see the new guidlines on the website (www.valdosta.edu/asiacouncil<http://www.valdosta.edu/asiacouncil> ) soon. Please encourage your students to participate. Schools that have signed the MOU with the Asia Council are:

Georgia Perimeter (now GSU), North Georgia, Valdosta State, Dalton State, Columbus State, West Georgia, Middle Georgia, Clayton State, Georgia Highlands, and ABAC.

2. The Asia Council Workshop this year will focus on Japan. Eric Kendrick is heading this up. The dates are April 7-8. I'll send out a flyer with a registration link as soon as it's updated. Eric has booked some excellent speakers.

3. Baogong Guo announced that the applications for faculty participation for the 2018 China program are coming out very soon. If you have dynamic faculty that are great recruiters, let them know about this opportunity.

Let us know if there are any events you'd like to publicize.

Cheers,

David Starling
