The Japan-US Economic Partnership:
Creating Jobs and Investment in America
Japanese companies are helping support local economies across the United States and strengthen Japan-U.S. business relations. The Japanese Auto Industry alone supports 1.5 million American jobs.

One of the recent examples of this is the $1.33 billion investment by Toyota in Kentucky. Toyota’s plan to make vehicle development more efficient will create 700 new jobs in Kentucky and is just a small part of a $10 billion, five-year investment. Subaru also recently announced their plan to add another 600 employees to a local factory in Lafayette, Indiana.

Japanese companies also pay higher average wages than companies from other major nations, paying an average of $80,000 per year, per worker to their American employees.

The close partnership between Japan and the United States strengthens the U.S. Economy, and not just in the automotive industry! As the second-largest developed country in the world, Japan’s cumulative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the U.S. is second only to the United Kingdom.

In addition, there are thirty-one U.S. states that list Japan as a top 10 export destination, with more than $1 billion in exports to Japan each year.

The Japan-US economic partnership is stronger than ever! Over the last three decades, the Japan-U.S. economic and trade relationship has changed dramatically. What started as a rivalry has transformed into a working partnership – and a profitable one at that, with over 840k U.S. jobs created directly.
In this exciting new Wall Street Journal paid program, see video stories from U.S. workers and learn how Japanese factories are supporting local communities in Savannah, Houston, and Georgetown (Kentucky).
