CSU in Japan - Theatre
Craftmanship in Japanese Performing Arts & Culture
May 25- June 8, 2017
Faculty: Prof. Krystal Kennel
Students will spend fourteen days during Maymester in Japan exploring Japanese culture and society as represented through its art, design and craftsmanship. This program is open to all students and is ideal for those looking to fulfill CORE requirements, as well as students completing degree requirements within the Theatre major or minor.
Excursions & Activities
While in Japan, students will participate in excursions & activities including the following:

  *   Visit to Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion) and its strolling landscape garden
  *   Visit to Todaiji Temple in Nara, which houses the world's largest bronze statue of Budda Vairocana
  *   Visit to Ryoanji Temple and its famous Zen rock garden
  *   Visit the historic Gion district of Kyoto
  *   Visit the Tsukiji fish market, which is featured in the 2011 documentary film Jiro Dreams of Sushi
  *   See both traditional and modern productions of Japanese Theatre
  *   Participate in Japanese various arts & crafts workshops
  *   Stay in ryokan or traditional inn in Kiryu, Japan (sister city of Columbus GA)
  *   Participate in traditional Japanese tea ceremony and wearing of kimono
