Subject: [SAUPO] New BA in Asian Studies at KSU approved by Board of Regents yesterday-News Release

Dear SAUPO speakers, sponsors, supporters and friends,

I would like to share this exciting news with you: The new Asian Studies Major from KSU, after over three years of hard work, was approved by the Board of Regents (BOR), the governing body of the University System of Georgia yesterday. The first semester for us to offer this new degree of BA in Asian Studies will be Fall 2016! Thank you to all of you who have provided letters of support, advice, internships and jobs possibilities for the new major. KSU President Dan Papp, Provost Ken Harmon, SVP Val Whittlesey, Dr. Thierry Leger and myself were at BOR yesterday to witness this exciting moment!

The BA in Asian Studies at KSU is an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree, which requires students to achieve intermediate proficiency in one Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean or other), to complete study abroad/internship in/about Asia, and to take courses in career-oriented concentrations: Asian Culture, History and Politics, Asian Business, or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). To fulfill these requirements successfully makes Asian Studies Majors uniquely qualified for the internships and jobs available in the U.S. and Asia. The new BA in Asian Studies, the only one of its kind in Georgia, will provide important new career opportunities for students in this global economy. With the unique university-wide course offerings, the four concentrations in Asian Studies, and Asian language requirement, combined with the current success of the Asian Studies Program, and the globally known SAUPO conference, this degree program is positioned well to succeed. Please see attached BA in Asian Studies curriculum, approved by BOR.

Thank you again for your continuous support for KSU Asian Studies Program, and for SAUPO conference, to be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel: http://www.kennesaw.edu/saupo

Yours,
May
